OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

The Emergency Management Department is committed to helping Tribal Government, Tribal Departments and Tribal Members by ensuring that emergency response professionals are prepared, equipped and trained for any situation that may arise by bringing together information and resources to prepare for and respond to a terrorist attack, natural disaster or other large-scale emergency. A disaster strikes anytime, anywhere. It takes many forms -- a hurricane, an earthquake, a tornado, a flood, a fire or hazardous spill, an act of nature or an act of terrorism. It builds over days or weeks, or hits suddenly, without warning. Every year, millions of Americans face disaster, and its terrifying consequences.

The primary mission of the Tribal Emergency Management Agency is to reduce the loss of life and property and protect Tribal Property, Facilities and People from all hazards, including natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other man-made disasters, by leading and supporting the Tribal Leaders and Departmental Staff in a risk-based, comprehensive emergency management system of preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation.

The Goal of the Emergency Management Coordinator is to assist the Tribe with all hazards planning and response as part of an Emergency Response and Management Plan. This involves interacting with Health and Safety professionals and Local, State, Federal and Tribal agencies and officials.
Daily activities include conducting research and data to compile reports, providing technical assistance to jurisdictions and Tribal Leaders, conduct planning, training and preparedness strategies for Tribal Departments and operations.

The continued communication and development of strong partnerships with Local, State, Federal and other Tribal entities, agencies and personnel. Maintaining current knowledge of civil and emergency preparedness policies, procedures, methods and techniques through training, publications and networking with other Emergency Management agencies.
Our overall mission is to provide and perform all related tasks and resources to facilitate a Tribal Homeland Security and Emergency Awareness program.
